Kiwi Discovery offer affordable independent hiking packages for the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler tracks. Kiwi Discovery walking track packages give you more time to enjoy these stunning hiking tracks, letting you experience these New Zealand "Great Walks” to the full!

Our hiking / walking track packages available from 28th October 2008 to 26th April 2009 include accommodation in Queenstown, Department of Conservation hut bookings and all transport requirements - Food not included, equipment rental available.

Hut bookings for the 08/09 season will not open until 15th July 2008 when the Dept of Conservation  re-opens for bookings.  Bookings may, however, be placed with Kiwi Discovery which will be held until this time when a confirmation may be provided.

ROUTEBURN TRACK, FIORDLAND

Accommodation in Queenstown is provided the night prior to your departure along with a track briefing at our Kiwi Discovery Shop, 5pm. A 2 night 3 day option is also available.

Track Day 1
8 am transfer from Queenstown via Glenorchy to the beginning of the Routeburn Track. The first day is an easy 3-4 hour walk to the Falls Hut.

Track Day 2
The track rises steadily past waterfalls, alpine lakes and rock studded basins to the Harris Saddle, 1277 metres.Crossing the Saddle you can take in views of the beautiful Hollyford Valley before descending to the hut beside Lake Mackenzie. 6-7 hours.

Track Day 3
It’s a leisurely walk this morning down to Howden Hut. Stop and listen for the bush robins, tomtits or the wood pigeons. After lunch, climb the 919m Key Summit, where an amazing array of plants flourish, such as orchids, bog pines and bog daisies, before returning to overnight at Lake Howden Hut.

Track Day 4
The track continues down past Lake Howden and through beech forests to finally join the Milford Road at the Divide. Here you will be picked up and taken onto Milford Sound for a boat cruise with a picnic lunch supplied, before returning to Queenstown for the night at approx 8pm. Accommodation is provided in Queenstown.

MILFORD TRACK, FIORDLAND

Accommodation in Queenstown is provided the night prior to your departure along with a track briefing at our Kiwi Discovery Shop 4pm.

Track Day 1
Travel by coach to Te Anau departing at 8am. After a break and time for morning tea, board your ferry for a cruise up Lake Te Anau to the Milford Track jetty at Glade House. From the landing a 1½ hour walk takes you to Clinton Hut where you will spend the night.

Track Day 2
Today your walk follows the Clinton River for approx 5-6 hours to reach Mintaro Hut. Mintaro Hut is situated at the base of the Mackinnon Pass.

Track Day 3
After breakfast you will hike to the top of the pass approx. two hours from the hut. This is the highest point on the track, 1073 metres. After the descent you can take an optional side walk to Sutherland Falls before carrying on to Dumpling Hut. Approx. 6 hours walking.

Track Day 4
Follow the Arthur River to Lake Ada and onto the track end at Sandfly Point. From here the launch will transfer you to Milford Sound where you will board your coach for the journey back to Queenstown arriving back at approx 8pm. Accommodation is provided in Queenstown.

We also have options available for combining both the Milford and Routeburn tracks, or a shorter 3 day Routeburn package  -- ask us for details!

KEPLER TRACK, FIORDLAND

The Kepler Track is now available, however it is important to remember that the Kepler track is for confident, fit trekkers who are experienced in alpine conditions.  Rates are available on application.
