Kiwi Discovery offer affordable independent hiking packages for the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler tracks. Our unguided walking track packages gives you more time to enjoy these stunning hiking tracks, letting you experience these New Zealand "Great Walks” to the full! Our hiking / walking track packages are available from 26th October 2009 to 26th April 2010 and 27th October 2010 to 26th April 2011

At Kiwi Discovery, the friendly and helpful staff will guide you through the whole process. We will book your complete package and if required help you with rental equipment from the quality selection we have on-site. Our staff will also provide you with a full track briefing the night prior to your departure giving you up to date information on the weather, track conditions along with what to take and eat as food is not included. We also provide help with luggage and vehicle storage.

ROUTEBURN TRACK, FIORDLAND

Traversing rugged alpine back country, the Routeburn Track is renowned as one of New Zealand’s premier walks. Passing through both the Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks, the Routeburn Track is ideal habitat for native birdlife - the Robin, Bellbird, Parakeet, Yellowhead, Fantail and, of course, the cheeky Kea. The track has been astounding tourists with it’s dramatic scenery since the 1880's. Offering a huge variety of breathtaking landscapes - cascading waterfalls, vast mountain ranges, dense rain forests and crystal clear lakes - there’s a postcard shot at every turn.

Our packages include accommodation in Queenstown the nights pre and post your walk along with a track briefing at our Kiwi Discovery Shop, 5pm the night prior to your departure. The packages we book are 3 nights/4 days - prices below but we also have a 2 night/3 day option available contact us for details and prices

ITINERARY 3 NIGHTS/4 DAYS

Track Day 1
A 9am transfer from Queenstown via Glenorchy to the beginning of the Routeburn Track. The first day is an easy 3-4 hour walk to the Falls Hut.

Track Day 2
The track rises steadily past waterfalls, alpine lakes and rock studded basins to the Harris Saddle, 1277 metres.Crossing the Saddle you can take in views of the beautiful Hollyford Valley before descending to the hut beside Lake Mackenzie. 6-7 hours.

Track Day 3
It’s a leisurely walk this morning down to Howden Hut. Stop and listen for the bush robins, tomtits or the wood pigeons. After lunch, climb the 919m Key Summit, where an amazing array of plants flourish, such as orchids, bog pines and bog daisies, before returning to overnight at Lake Howden Hut.

Track Day 4
The track continues down past Lake Howden and through beech forests to finally join the Milford Road at the Divide. Here you will be picked up and taken onto Milford Sound for a boat cruise and a picnic lunch, before returning to Queenstown for the night at approx 8pm. Accommodation is provided in Queenstown.

KEPLER TRACK, FIORDLAND

The Kepler Track is now available, however it is important to remember that the Kepler track is for confident, fit trekkers who are experienced in alpine conditions.  Rates are available on application.
