PICNIC AT BOBS COVE
Take a picnic and enjoy the walk from 12 Mile to Bobs Cove, with 4½ hours to explore this region you might want to take a book to read as you relax on the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
The track from 12 Mile to Bobs Cove is in a native forest along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Orginally the cove was a campsite for Maori on the greenstone/pounamu trail to the head of the lake. Find ancient marine sediments, fossils of oyster shells, other molluscs and algae along the track. Keep an eye out for summer’s red rata flowers and the large white flowered native clematis in spring.

TAKE THE JOURNEY TO GLENORCHY WALKWAY
Transport arrives in Glenorchy at 10.30am and departs 1.30pm, giving you 3 hours to explore this quaint township. You have the choice to take a packed lunch or purchase lunch from one of the towns cafés.
View bird life, including black swans and Canada Geese, as its boardwalk traverses wetlands just north of Glenorchy. A great family walk ideal for picnics with views of Mt Earnslaw.

SAM SUMMERS HUT - MOUNT CRICHTON LOOP TRACK
Take some lunch and plenty of water because this track requires some steady climbs and moderately challenging terrain. Walk the full Mt Crichton Loop or just head to Sam Summers Hut and return. The track loops around 12 Mile creek with some great views to be had.

Track Time: 2-4 hours and requires medium fitness.

LUNCH AT LAKE SYLVAN
Pack a picnic and do lunch by Lake Sylvan.
Lake Sylvan track is near the start of the Routeburn Track. This well-defined track leads through old moraine river terraces and very tall red beech forest which leads to Lake Sylvan with fantastic views of Mt Earnslaw.

Take your own packed lunch and get a taste of the Routeburn Track. Starting at the Routeburn shelter swing bridge you can walk an hour into the track before returning back on the short loop track. Experience the beautiful beech forests of Mt Aspiring National Park.
